What is Lymphoma Cancer Symptoms? Lymph Nodes Glands (Lymphatic) Treatment

When our bodies are in a good state of balance our cells grow, divide and multiply in an orderly way, but sometimes this process gets out of control. When this happens tumours can form, typically in the lymphatic vessels in the armpit, groin or neck. A cancer of the lymphatic system or lymph nodes is known as a lymphoma.

My own belief in the understanding of lymphoma cancer is that this is an immune system reaction to some form of depletion in the body. To understand how this might happen it can be helpful to make a comparison with the electronic engine management systems in many modern cars. There have been many cases where the computerised control systems have malfunctioned and the driver has totally lost control, with the accelerator working at full capacity and the brakes failing totally. The adrenals constitute our body’s management system, being our immune system’s first line of defence, but unfortunately they have an ‘all or nothing’ way of dealing with any situation which they perceive as an emergency and it is easy for all control to be lost.

What is lymphoma from the Ayurvedic perspective? It is due to a problem of excess Kapha. The congestion of the lymphatic system and lymph glands by an excess of mucus causes blockages and swellings can develop. Sometimes parts of these growths can break off and move to other areas, causing problems to other organs. For example, mucus clogging the cells of the lungs can lead to lung cancer. Even when the lymph nodes in question are removed the Kapha is likely to move elsewhere.

Ayurvedic lymphoma treatment first involves convincing the body that there is no emergency. Medicines are employed which are able to prevent the excess production of mucus and to balance the immune system. An anti-Kapha diet and Ayurvedic herbal formulations are an essential part of the lymphoma treatment program and appropriate Yogic exercises are frequently recommended.

Much more research is needed to enable a greater understanding of the way in which lymphatic cancer develops and the mechanisms by which it spreads in the body. This article merely sets out to show how Ayurvedic treatment is more concerned with establishing the root cause with a view to preventing recurrence than with simply removing the obvious lymphoma cancer symptoms.

Lymphoma Early Signs and Symptoms

Symptoms of lymph node cancer may include:

  • Loss of appetite
  • Loss of weight
  • Nausea
  • Persistent fatigue
  • Fever
  • Night sweats
  • Shortness of breath
  • Itchy skin

It is important not to neglect any lymphoma cancer symptoms and take appropriate treatment on time.

How is Lymphoma Diagnosed?

Testing for lymphatic cancer generally begins with a physical examination, during which your physician will review your medical history and discuss your symptoms. Lymphoma can be confirmed with a biopsy, in which a tissue sample is taken from an affected area of the body for analysis. After a biopsy report, a healthcare provider may be able to suggest a suitable lymphoma treatment plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does lymphoma start?

Lymphoma starts when our Lymphocytes (type of White Blood Cells) go through some mutations which may cause them to grow uncontrollably. These abnormal growth of lymphocytes may turn into tumors in lymph nodes and other parts of lymphatic system

Can lymphoma be detected in a blood test?

While a blood test (Complete Blood Count) may give some indications about the conditions of lymphocytes, it is not enough for diagnosing lymphoma. Lymphoma is diagnosed through a combination of tests like CT scans and biopsy of swollen lymph nodes.

What is usually the first indicator of lymphoma?

The first and foremost indicator of lymphoma is swelling of lymph nodes in the neck, armpit or groin.

What are the warning signs of lymphoma?

The warning signs or the symptoms of lymph node cancer are:

  • Swelling of Lymph nodes
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Night Sweats
  • Fatigue
  • Fever
  • Itchy Skin
  • Frequent Infections

Can lymphoma be cured?

If detected early, many types of lymphoma can be treated and may even get cured. The treatment and curing of lymphoma also depends on the type and stage of lymphoma, as well as the individual’s overall health.

What is a CBC for lymphoma?

A CBC refers to a Complete Blood Count test which provides detailed information about different blood cell counts. An unusual increase in WBCs may indicate lymphoma but that is not a definitive and single tool of diagnosis. Further tests, such as a biopsy report result is required to be sure.

What kills lymphoma cells?

Modern medical treatments may include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and immunotherapy to kill lymphoma cells. Such treatments may often lead to side effects and irreversible damage to the body. Ayurveda, on the other hand, targets the root causes that lead to excessive growth of lymphoma cells and treats them according to a person’s individual dosha constitution.

What foods prevent lymphoma?

Ayurveda views the cause of lymphoma as excess of Kapha dosha in the body. Excessive Kapha can lead to congestion in the lymphatic system. Therefore to counter an early stage of lymphoma, Ayurveda suggests foods which counter the Kapha dosha in the body. Consult an Ayurvedic practitioner to know more about the anti Kapha foods.

How can I reduce my risk of lymphoma?

Reducing the risk of lymphoma includes adopting a healthy lifestyle with mindful living:

  • Eating a balanced meal and consuming food as per your constitution.
  • Doing daily yoga and pranayama.
  • Cutting back on smoking and drinking alcohol.
  • Protecting yourself from infections.
  • Reducing exposure to toxins and carcinogens.

Does fasting heal lymphoma?

Fasting alone may not help in healing lymphoma or any other cancer. Always consult a healthcare provider to discuss appropriate treatment options which are tailored as per your overall health and well-being.
