Ayurvedic Herbs and Preparations Heal and Bloom

Ayurvedic preparations are made from a combination of many Ayurvedic herbs and minerals. Traditional Ayurvedic herbs are those native to the Indian subcontinent – Raman Das formulates a blend of these Indian herbs according to your needs after consultation.

Ayurvedic medicines are traditionally classified as being for Vata, Pitta or Kapha imbalances, and often one type of preparation is able to treat many disorders. For example, an Ayurvedic herbal preparation for sinus problems, which also works for digestion, influenza, headache, and general vitality. When Pitta is low then Fire (Agni) is low, and toxic substances start to accumulate in different channels of the body due to low metabolic rate. This creates congestion in the flow of energy in the different channels. When this occurs, blockage of the mind, no willpower, no inspiration, depression, anxiety, all sorts problems can result.

Almost all the medicine in Ayurveda is based on not only alleviating the present symptoms but rebuilding and healing your vital system – the result being long term relief (assuming that to reduce possibility of recurrence you also adjust your lifestyle to better suit your dosha type!)

According to Ayurvedic principals, a single herb may have an imbalancing/aggravating effect upon the doshas, and so many herbs are combined together to counterbalance this factor. Traditionally, many formulations contain 10, 20 or more types of herbs and minerals and are often ground for many hours over a period of days or months to increase their potency.

The way in which the preparation is ingested has importance. It is taken with an appropriate vehicle / anupana (eg. honey, warm milk, water, juice) which also combines to provide a therapeutic effect, improving absorption and digestibility by the body.

Rejuvenating preparations (rasayanas) can be taken by anyone who wishes to rejuvenate their body. For example: one of the best rasayanas is Shilijit. In the summer season the peaks of the Himalayas ooze with a tar-like substance and this is collected, purified and processed fit for consumption. This medication is used for vitality, bone strength and as an aphrodisiac.

In the case of parasitic infections, there are Ayurvedic herbs and preparations which work by not killing the parasites directly, but through modifying the medium of the affected systems in the body to an extent where these parasites can no longer thrive.
