Body Indicators – Understanding the Signals from Your Body

Body Indicator - What Is Your Body Trying To Tell You?

How often do we hear a person say that they have been to the doctor because they have noticed one or other symptom, and after carrying out all the usual tests the doctor has told them that nothing appears to be wrong. Sometimes the patient is referred to a specialist for further investigation, only to have further confirmation that all the test results are normal. Months or even years may then pass, until finally new symptoms appear and a full-blown illness develops.

The practice of diagnosis in modern medicine has been radically altered by the advent of high technology and the modern physician relies heavily on the information obtained from sophisticated machinery such as scanners, imaging equipment, EEGs, ECGs, and radiography, as well as results from laboratory tests, in formulating a diagnosis. This is a very different scenario to the traditional systems of medicine, in which the practitioner had to depend upon his five senses to interpret the body’s many signs and signals as to what was really going on ‘under the bonnet’. Ayurvedic diagnosis has always utilised such methods as tongue, eye and pulse examination, and physiognometry (face and body reading), in interpreting the body’s attempts at communication.

To give one example, a person may notice the appearance of patches of white skin around the throat or neck. These may be noticeably different from the normal white colouration of the skin. The skin may develop rough or seborrhoeic patches, or unilateral, bilateral or universal swelling of the neck may occur. At first the patient may be told that nothing appears to be wrong, but these may well be early signs of a thyroid problem which could ultimately lead to severe metabolic imbalances, such as diabetes. Conversely, it might be that slow metabolic function, or iodine deficiency could be affecting thyroid function. In either case, the problem has a far better chance of being fixed if it is attended to at an early stage.

In an attempt to make people more aware of the countless ways in which our bodies are constantly trying to communicate with us I have produced a little book, called ‘Body Indicator – What Is Your Body Trying To Tell You?’  This is not a book intended for use as a ‘home doctor’ but it should enable the user to interpret some of the most common signs and signals that the body employs to alert us of an upcoming health problem, so that we can seek appropriate help before the situation worsens. It will shortly be produced as an e-book on Amazon and it is certainly a must for anybody who wishes to be pro-active in maintaining a good state of health, as well as helping family and friends to do the same.
