Ayurvedic Treatment for Gum Periodontal Disease and Loose Teeth

Causes of Loose Teeth, Gum Disease or Periodontal Disease:

Loose teeth can be a sign of gum disease or periodontal disease. A certain amount of tooth mobility is normal as the teeth are attached to the bone by slightly elastic ligament. However, an immune system problem or just old age can cause muscle systems and the tissues around the teeth to weaken and the gums to shrink, causing the teeth to lose their support. An overgrowth of bacteria can cause the mouth to become more acidic and this together with inflammation can cause gum disease and loose teeth.

Loose teeth and Gum (Periodontal) Disease Treatment:

Ayurveda has some very effective medicines for loose teeth and gum disease treatment, some of the best being Arjuna, Amalaki and Triphala.  The practice of oil pulling can also be very beneficial as can the application of sesame paste.

Certain yogic postures are good for protection if these are practiced at an early enough stage, as they improve the supply of blood to the mouth. Uttanpadasna and Vipareeta Karani are both described in my Yatan Yoga Therapy Book

The Yatan Holistic Ayurvedic Centre in Sydney can help with this problem. To book your consultation call us on 1300 552 260.

What are the symptoms of periodontitis?

Periodontitis symptoms may include red or swollen gums, a sensation of pain while chewing, loose teeth, sensitive teeth, persistent bad breath, and receding gums. If you are experiencing any of the above periodontitis symptoms, It is important to consult a healthcare provider without delay.

One must also understand what causes these periodontitis symptoms to occur in the first place. There are some causes of periodontitis that may lead to poor oral health. These periodontitis causes include:

  • Poor oral hygiene
  • Tobacco and use
  • Overconsumption of sugary and acidic foods
  • Poor Nutrition
  • Teeth grinding
  • Genetics

Prevention and home remedies

1. Maintain Oral Hygiene: Brush your teeth twice a day with a toothpaste or Ayurvedic tooth powder and use a soft-bristle toothbrush.

2. Healthy Diet: Consume a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains.

3. Gum Massage: Before going to bed, massage your gums with an Ayurvedic gum massage oil as it may strengthen the gums by making them strong.

4. Saltwater Rinse: Gargling with warm salt water can help reduce inflammation and may provide temporary relief from discomfort.

5. Oil Pulling: Swishing coconut oil in your mouth for about 5 to 15 minutes daily may help reduce harmful bacteria and promote healthier gums.

What are the best practices for healthy teeth and gums?

Periodontitis is a preventable condition that requires consistent oral hygiene practices and a healthy lifestyle. Here are some practices you can follow for good oral health.

1. Stay Hydrated: Drinking water helps wash away food particles and bacteria, promoting a cleaner mouth.

2. Replace Your Toothbrush: Change your toothbrush every 3 months or sooner if the bristles become frayed.

3. Use a tongue cleaner: Using a silver or steel tongue cleaner helps you get rid og white deposits on your tongue which may contribute to overall good oral health.

4. Practice Yoga: Yoga poses such as Uttanpadasana and Vipareeta Karani might help to improve the supply of blood to the mouth which may make your gum health better.

5. Limit Sugary and Acidic Foods: Reduce consumption of sugary and acidic foods and drinks that contribute to enamel erosion and gum issues.
