Ayurvedic Treatment For Hay Fever
Ayurvedic Treatment For Hay Fever
Hay fever is a common allergic condition that is estimated to affect as many as one in five people at some stage. It can be triggered by very hot or cold weather conditions, by airborne allergens, or by different foods. The most common symptoms are a runny or blocked nose and itchy, watery eyes. Sometimes it may feel difficult to breathe. In chronic cases the condition may persist throughout the year.
When the condition is seasonal rather than chronic certain home remedies may be helpful. Turmeric, pepper and black pepper are spices that may be beneficial. Ginger and lemon grass teas are to be recommended, as is lime with hot water and salt. Eyewashes may give some temporary relief but daily use of the neti pot with Ayurvedic salt may be much more effective , as although the eyes may seem to be the worst affected the real problem may lie in the sinuses. Precautions which should be taken include regular deep cleaning of the home, at least every three months, with particular attention to air conditioning and ventilation systems and also to car upholstery and air filters. Dust-mites otherwise take up residence and multiply in these places.
Ayurveda recognizes hay fever as being ultimately an immune system disorder. In more persistent cases home remedies can only be expected to bring temporary relief and effective, lasting treatment will involve strengthening the immune system by means of appropriate medicines.
