Choosing Health Products – How Research Confuses Consumers

Ayurvedic Supplements in Byron BayPeople spend billions each year on diets, treatments and supplements in an attempt to stay healthy, but with the vast amount of frequently contradictory information being conveyed by the media, it is hardly surprising that confusion reigns. To make matters worse, much of this material claims to be based on scientific research, so how can it be that research can so often reach two completely opposite conclusions?

Of course, science is continually evolving and new findings challenge previously accepted conclusions. But there is a further contributor to the confusion, and that is the way in which the information is presented. For example, it would be very easy to present a sound scientific case for the benefit of virtually any health supplement, and this could be based on the results of countless qualified studies. Yet, many other recent studies state that taking supplements is a waste of money. The fact is that if we were to buy every supplement that was found to be effective in improving our circulation, enhancing our immunity, protecting our joints, feeding our skin, sharpening our brain power, etc., etc., we would need some very large carrier bags, not to mention a mortgage. Even worse, if we attempted to consume a fraction of all this stuff we would seriously clog up the machinery of our bodies.

Companies that are trying to sell a product will go so far as to put doctors and dietitians on their pay-rolls to promote their products and this can sometimes make a product seem highly attractive. But there can be little doubt that the best way to find out what your body really needs – and this is subject to constant change – is to take advice from an experienced practitioner. In the end you will not only save a lot of time and money, but you will feel confident in the knowledge that your body is being supplied with whatever it is lacking.
