What is the YATAN Approach to Ayurvedic Treatment?
A Unique Blend of Traditional Wisdom and Modern Healing
Welcome to the YATAN Ayurveda approach—where ancient Indian wisdom meets the needs of modern life. This holistic approach to Ayurvedic treatment was developed by Vaidya Raman Das Mahatyagi, drawing on over four decades of experience in natural healing, Vedic science, and yogic living.
A Life Rooted in Ayurveda
Raman Das’s journey began at the age of seven, when he lived with his grandfather, a respected village healer who offered free Ayurvedic care to those in need. Observing his grandfather’s deep compassion and herbal expertise left a lasting impression. By the age of ten, Raman Das had already begun experimenting with Ayurvedic herbs to help his own family.
Over time, he recognised that Ayurveda is not just traditional—it’s grounded in logic, science, and a profound understanding of the body, mind, and soul. Inspired by these early insights, he committed his life to studying and sharing this timeless system of healing.
Building a Bridge Between Ancient and Modern
Since 1979, Raman Das has refined his Ayurvedic knowledge through mentorship with traditional Vaidyas and scholars, and by studying the connections between Ayurveda and modern anatomy and physiology. His focus has always been to understand how herbs, diet, and lifestyle can work together to restore balance and vitality.
In 2000, he brought his expertise to Australia and founded the YATAN Ayurvedic Centre in Gordon, Sydney. Since then, he has helped individuals from all walks of life improve their health and wellbeing through tailored Ayurvedic therapies.
What does YATAN stand for?
YATAN is an acronym representing five pillars of holistic wellbeing:
- Yoga – for physical and mental balance
- Ayurveda – for natural, personalised healing
- Tantra – for energetic alignment and transformation
- Astrology – for understanding individual karmic and constitutional patterns
- Nature – as the foundation of all healing
Together, these elements form the YATAN system—a complete path to health, harmony, and spiritual growth.
Yoga

YOGA is more than a series of physical postures—it’s the ancient Vedic science of self-realisation. Through asanas (postures), pranayama (breathwork), and meditation, you reconnect with your inner self and awaken your body’s innate healing potential. Yoga revitalises your tissues, boosts nutrient flow, restores flexibility, and harmonises your nervous system.
✨ Regular practice helps dissolve emotional blockages, strengthens resilience, and cultivates a deep sense of peace.
Ayurveda

AYURVEDA, the “knowledge of life,” is the world’s oldest continuous system of natural medicine, practised for over 3,000 years. It recognises that each person is unique, with an individual constitution shaped by the balance of the three doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha). When lifestyle, diet, or external factors disturb this balance, illness can arise. Ayurveda works to strengthen digestion (Agni), clear toxins (Ama), and restore harmony at every level.
✨ By aligning your daily routines and diet with your constitution, Ayurveda helps you achieve vibrant health and emotional clarity.
Tantra

TANTRA teaches you to live in flow with the natural forces and subtle energies around you. It is a practical system for cultivating vitality and harnessing the power of your mind to transform your life. Unlike common misconceptions, Tantra is not limited to rituals—it’s about aligning your inner energy with universal rhythms.
✨ Through this alignment, you gain the clarity and strength to break free from limiting patterns and live with greater purpose.
Astrology

VEDIC ASTROLOGY (Jyotish) views the movements of the planets as deeply connected to your health, emotions, and life path. Every person has a unique energetic blueprint influenced by planetary alignments at the time of birth. Understanding these rhythms can help neutralise negative karmic patterns and amplify supportive energies.
✨ Astrology in the YATAN system guides personalised recommendations for health and life decisions.
Nature

NATURE offers powerful tools for healing that are often overlooked in our fast-paced modern lives. Simple yet profound practices—like soaking up sunlight for vitamin D, grounding on fresh grass to release stress, or walking in a forest—are free gifts that nourish mind and body.
✨ Spending time outdoors has been shown to lower stress hormones, uplift mood, and restore your natural biorhythms.
At YATAN, we encourage you to reconnect with these timeless practices to awaken the body’s innate intelligence and heal from within.
