Now Winter is coming,
you may be
experiencing dry skin,
blocked sinuses, cough, cold and respiratory congestion. I
have found that with Ayurveda alone I can manage all of these problems.
Prevention is the best strategy. If you are prone to
respiratory problems or are feeling the first signs of them, it is best to
contact me straight away to minimise
further development of the congestion which then can go
on to cause more chronic problems.
There are
many things that you can do on a daily basis to stay healthy and
congestion free this Winter. I've included a simple routine
that will help build up and support your immune system. If you'd
like to know more, don't hesitate to call me,
with thanks,
Raman Das
Daily
Abhyanga
Vata tends to be aggravated in cold weather, and Kapha tends to
accumulate, so it is important to keep warm, and counteract dryness of the
skin by daily Abhyanga (Ayurvedic self massage).
Shatavari Face and Body Oil
is our most nourishing and rejuvenating oil, and is suitable for all dosha
types. Another alternative is to regularly treat yourself to an
Ayurvedic Massage at our clinic! If you want to warm up, then
massage using Mahanarayan Oil
in a warm room provides relief and relaxation to tired muscles.
Jalaneti - Nasal Rinsing
A simple and effective way to counteract dry or congested nasal
passages is to do a daily saline nasal rinse using a Neti Pot (see Product
update below). According to Ayurveda, jalaneti also has beneficial
effects on memory, eyes, sense of smell etc, through cleansing toxins from
the sinus passages.
Diet
- Avoid cold foods and drinks, (particularly straight from the fridge) as
they aggravate Vata and neutralise Pitta. If your dominant dosha is
Vata, then limit the amount of broccoli, cauliflower and other brassicas
eaten as they too increase Vata. Some nourishing and generally
"safe" foods for all doshes during winter include sweet potato, carrot,
beetroot, pumpkin, spinach and green peas.
- Take a teaspoon or 2 of Chyawanprash daily
during Autumn and Winter...spread it on toast for breakfast instead of
your usual topping, or eat it straight. The main fruit in
Chyawanprash is Amla (Indian Gooseberry) - a very rich source of Vitamin
C, and together with the 40 odd Ayurvedic herbs and spices, it makes a
potent rejuvenating and nourishing jam.
- Just before bedtime, drink a cup of our
Kapha Tea. Containing herbs and spices such as black pepper, ginger,
pippali, amla and more, it is Kapha balancing, an immunoprotector
and acts as a preventative against viruses. |

Ayurveda and Hormone Imbalances |

Pre menopause
Generally when a woman reaches her forties she may
start to exhibit signs of pre menopause. These include: irregular periods,
heavy flow alternated with light flow, spotting between periods, months
with no period. When I first came to Australia I noticed that some women
in their forties suffered from osteoporosis and hot flushes. Whereas in
India women of the same age did not have these symptoms but complained of
frequent urination and vaginal itching. After two years of research I was
able to formulate an Ayurvedic herbal remedy that addressed these problems
for women in Australia and have found it to be extremely successful.
Menopause
and post menopause
From the age of forty-five to fifty a women will
usually go through the menopause that is a natural state in a women’s
body. Different symptoms can be experienced during menopause, all of which
can affect the general health and well being of a woman. These symptoms
are: osteoporosis, irregular period, sometimes the bleeding is very light,
dryness of the skin, low thyroid function, hot flushes, night sweats,
headache, tiredness, bloating, indigestion, constipation, back pain, neck
pain, foggy eyes etc. In Ayurveda these symptoms can be managed with
herbal preparations and the treatment is best started before the symptoms
become too severe.
Male Menopause - "Andropause"
The andropause is the male version of the menopause and
usually effects men who are forty years old and over. It is responsible
for the drop in the male reproductive hormones. The symptoms include: low
libido, lowered motivation for a sex life, confusion, depression, anxiety,
tiredness, memory loss, general debility, possible headache, arthritic
symptoms, dryness of the skin, deterioration of the cartilage, frequent
urination, symptoms of diabetes, weight gain and loss, loss of enthusiasm
for life in general, feelings of disappointment, low stamina,
deterioration of eyesight, cramps, prostate problems, insomnia etc. A man
may experience all of the above symptoms or just a few. In Ayurveda the
management of the andropause can be very successful.
