How Can Ayurveda Help Me?

According to Ayurveda, many types of chronic, recurrent and seasonal disorders can result from deficiency or aggravation of the doshas.   Ayurveda’s aim is to balance the doshas in order to restore health, rather than directly treat the symptoms of disease.  Some typical signs of imbalance include:

Pitta – skin disorders, boils, allergies, burning urination, impatience, easily angered

Vata - headache, aches and pains of the joints, mental instability, confusion, insomnia,  anxiety, indigestion.

Kapha - coughs and colds, mucous formation, constipation,  lack of energy, wanting to oversleep.

Your doshas can become imbalanced for many reasons, but two crucial areas that can make significant improvements to your mental and physical wellbeing are :

- a diet of fresh unprocessed foods, ideally prepared daily, and suitable to your dosha type
- following practical, daily routines for cleansing, elimination, water intake, sleep and exercise.

Ayurveda can show us how to restore balance in all areas of our lives.

How much time does it take to feel the effects of Ayurvedic preparations, dietary advice and life style changes?

Typically it takes one week to five weeks according to individual body type to feel the affect of Ayurvedic medication, dietary advice and life style changes.  In chronic cases it takes longer to balance the doshas, but the patient can feel changes of symptoms, physical and emotional changes or improvement within that timeframe.  After every consultation gradually the patient may feel the improvement by themselves  in symptoms, vitality, texture of skin and appearance.

How Ayurveda works for beauty and skin care.

The Centre has a number of Ayurvedic products and preparations for internal consumption as well as for external application, which are beneficial for both men and women.  For dry skin, we have preparations which help to increase the  production of mucilaginous substances in the body, balance the lubricants of the skin, and detoxify the channels, resulting in softer more supple skin.  Various kind of skin cream and Vata balancing oils are also helpful for dry skin.  According to the Ayurvedic concept, dry skin conditions are due to Vata imbalance in the digestive tract. So all the internal medication is balancing Vata.

Can Ayurveda help in the case of bone injury, sports injury, chronic accidental pain?

In the case of bone injury, sports injury etc, Ayurvedic preparations are working as a supplement to strengthen and heal the system internally.  For accident and trauma injuries it is best to receive immediate attention from your Medical Doctor or Hospital.  In many cases, Ayurveda can assist in the recovery and healing process and is complementary to any ongoing treatment given by your Medical Doctor.

What To Expect From  a Consultation

An Ayurvedic Consultation is a process of discovery for the practitioner and the patient.  Many aspects of your current and past situation will be discussed to assist Raman Das in understanding your individual body system, temperament, attitude, possible sickness, tendency for recurrent sickness, lifestyle, the biological time of your daily routine, your natural cravings etc.

Based on this Raman Das may discuss such things as how to know and pacify your cravings, suitable diet for your constitutional type, food as a medicine, how to achieve fulfillment of desire, how to sleep, specific cooking, what types of yoga/exercise are suitable for you, water drinking therapy - all according to Ayurvedic principles.

A number of techniques may be utilised during the consultation to assist in assessing your present condition:

Pulse diagnosis: the practitioner is not only counting the pulse but the volume, movement, speed and temperature, to ascertain the patient’s doshas.

Tongue examination: provides the practitioner with information about the liver, gall bladder and the gut. The colour, coating, shape and size of the tongue also provides important information about the natural vital system (genetic).

Eye examination: the colour of the eyes gives the practitioner information about the condition of the liver, iron content (sufficient / deficient / balanced).

Patient history: Family medical history, genetic disorders, recurrent diseases. If the patient is ill, Ayurveda wants to know the state of the patient’s health in the past and the present.

During the consultation the emphasis is on the present condition, and where possible treatment also takes into account the patient’s lifestyle choices they feel they cannot change at present.   In many cases it is possible to balance these effects

Ayurveda also encompasses the palmistry system to determine karmic/planetary sicknesses and their intensity.   Also it considers the ecological impact of the patient’s birthplace and current environment.  For example: In many cases of different types of sickness, the texture and colour of the skin is changing and is different in those of European, Asian descent, etc.

The initial consultation is minimum one hour and during this consultation you would be provided with nutrition and lifestyle modifications, exercise regimes and depending on the condition, any of the treatment methods described on the Services page .
